Discover Mural and Street Art While Traveling: Uncover History, Stories, and the Personality of the Location
I love mural art. Whenever I travel, I make a point of wandering neighborhoods and cities seeking out the districts or areas where mural artists have made their mark. Melbourne, Australia; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bergen, Norway; I can’t tell you how many cities embrace and celebrate this incredible art form! Not only does it brighten up an urban landscape, but the subject matter can be so indicative of the personality of the location. One may find a quote that is being expressed. Is this a saying or belief strongly held by locals? One may see a portrait of a person. Is this person of historic importance or significance to the city?…

Explore Cincinnati, Ohio with Creativity
The Queen City, Cincy, The ‘Nati, The City of Seven Hills – Cincinnati, Ohio is known by many names, and has a long history in America, yet we never hear much about it as a place to visit let alone in the general national news. During the 1800s, Cincinnati remained one of the top 10 populous cities in the United States, yet as time went on, other midwestern cities such as Chicago, and St. Louis surpassed it in population, most likely garnering Cincinnati less national attention. Despite this fact, there is much to know and love about Cincinnati. In celebration of the Cincinnati Bengal’s appearance in Super Bowl LVI, I thought it would be fun to…

Creative Wanderlust Prompt: Passport
It’s interesting to me how a document such as a passport can represent so much to me. It is not only a form of identification, but it also shares my nationality and home country to the world. It houses stamps of so many stories of adventure- travel triumphs, travel failures, the loved ones I’ve traveled with and all the people I’ve met along the way. For many it’s a badge of honor, providing others with proof of where you have been. For me, it’s less about the proof and more about the ability to be able to travel, explore this incredible world, meet new people, be exposed to new cultures…

Whatever Medium You Choose – It’s All Creative
This week while I was starting one of my art prompts, I realized I really wanted to draw digitally. I had a moment of hesitation, as for the most part, when doing my daily prompts I like using what most refer to as “traditional” mediums. I love my black pen, and crave the looseness I get with my watercolors. So I paused for a moment in a conundrum. When I wrote my weekly Creative Wanderlust Prompt list and put the words, “Paint,” “Draw” and “Write” did I inherently mean specifically paint with watercolor or draw with a pen? Absolutely not! This musing instantly reminded me that I’m the one who emphatically believes what ever…

Creative Wanderlust Prompt: Las Vegas
What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas… well not true this week. Let’s use this glitter town as inspiration to get creative! This week we are heading to Sin City to be inspired by all things Vegas! For those who have never been, Las Vegas, Nevada is quite a sight to see. Not just for all the things we think about when we hear of Vegas (lights, gambling, night clubs, show girls, partying) but what I find most fascinating is a how a trading post along the Spanish Trail in the Mojave Desert (Vegas in Spanish means “the meadows”) turned into one of the world’s top tourist destinations and has…

Need a Creative Boost? Add Recess to Your Daily Schedule
I was just pontificated in a recent newsletter about wanting to slow down and not be “busy” all the time. Then, as life would have it, a crazy-busy week ensued. Ha! The irony. Life is a work in progress. Lately I see creative “shiny objects” everywhere that veer me off course yet give me so much energy in the process! Each day I am reminded my to do list will not get done and I’m getting better at being OK with that. But the big epiphany for me was although being busy for busyness sake is not good, I thrive when I jump from project to project, try out new techniques and learn…
