On Location: Artist Homes – Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul in Mexico City
Located in the Coyoacan neighborhood of Mexico City, Casa Azul (the Blue House) is the birthplace of famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. It is also the home where she grew up and spent many years with her husband Diego Rivera, and eventually died. The home is now a museum containing artworks from both artists as well as many personal items and memorabilia as well as Mexican folk art. One would say the home is as colorful as it’s inhabitants were. On Location: Artist Homes – Jackson Pollock’s East Hampton Home
It fascinates me to see the environment in which famous artists lived and work. This wood shingled house in East Hampton, New York was home to the Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock and his artist/wife Lee Krasner. They moved from New York City to this home in 1945 and continued to be quite prolific painters with Pollock’s studio upstairs for a bit (then in the adjacent barn) and Krasner’s studio in the bedroom. Even with Pollock’s challenges with alcoholism and depression, he was able to paint some of his most famous masterpieces in this house. Culture: Provencal Garden Inspiration
The smell of sweet lavender, the sound of tiny pebbles crunching beneath your sandals, the taste of chilled Rosé wine… I have such fond memories of lounging away warm summer afternoons in the Provençal garden of my parent’s mas they rented in St. Remy de Provence. We had many outdoor meals at their stone table (covered in Provençal fabric), and enjoyed cooling down from the blistering summer sun in their cerulean blue pool.
